⏵ character information
name: Ser Duncan the Tall/Dunk
canon: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms
age: 22
canon point: Mid Season 1 x Episode 5
history: Wiki here.
abilities: Dunk has no supernatural powers, he's just a tall, large lunk of a man. He's good with horses and is trained in fighting having squired for years under his mentor, Ser Alan of Pennytree. Although to be honest, he's not entirely that good of a fighter yet and in desperate need of more training. His sheer size and will to survive are what have gotten this far.
personality: Despite his rough childhood growing up in the slums of Flea Bottom, that experience hasn't done much to harden him or make him overly cynical. He's a genuine man who wants only to do what is right. He takes great stock in being honorable and living up to the vows of knighthood. It is ironic, then, that one of his first acts as a hedgeknight was a lie about being knighted by Ser Arlan prior to the man's death. This is something that isn't explicitly confirmed in the show but heavily implied. Ser Arlan taught him everything he knew about knighthood and no doubt promised to knight him when the time was right, but passed away before he could. This lie is something that eats away at Dunk and only makes him wish to try harder to live up to what a knight should be. For what really makes a true knight? Is it saying the words and taking the vow, or is it living the vow with your actions? In addition to being an honorable man, Dunk is a simple man. He does not have grand desires for glory, but survival and purpose. His only aim to try and win the turney at Ashford Meadow is to keep food in his belly and coin enough to continue being a knight. Dunk also views people by their actions and not by their title or lack of one alone. If a prince like Aerion does something to hurt an innocent like Tanselle, he doesn't care that he is a prince; he cares that he's the aggressor and hurting someone who in no way deserves it and will defend them accordingly. He calls highborn lords by their first name and, even after learning that Egg is a Targayan, doesn't treat the boy any differently. He doesn't hide his feelings or choose his words all that carefully, speaking plainly. Unless, of course, he's talking to a beautiful woman, and then all his words become a jumbled mess, and he'll no doubt come off looking more of a fool than usual.
